Caravan Security Package in a Heavy Duty Specification

Security that an insurer recognises: a hitch lock, a wheel clamp, a tracker and corner post locks, which between them is what an insurer means when it says adequate security.

Towing is the one thing you can buy for a car where the wrong part is not merely disappointing. Every towbar listing here states the type approval number, the D value, the maximum noseweight and whether the bumper has to be cut, because those four facts decide whether a bar is legal on your vehicle and whether it will pull what you want to pull. Every electrical listing says plainly whether it is a dedicated loom or a universal one with a bypass relay, and what each will and will not do. We would rather lose a sale to a cheaper part than sell you one that does not fit.

• Electrics: the tracker and the alarm are 12 volt and wired to the leisure battery with their own fuses, so a flat starter battery does not disarm them
• Fitting time: an hour for the mechanical items, three hours for a tracker or an alarm installed properly and hidden

• Materials: uprated for the heavier end of the range: thicker section, a higher D value and a higher noseweight, which matters more than most people realise

• Insurance: tell your insurer what you have fitted and get the discount in writing. A great many policies quietly require a hitch lock and a wheel clamp in use whenever the caravan is unattended, and will decline a claim without them

Fitting

The mechanical items take an hour and need no tools beyond what is in the box. A tracker is a three hour job if it is done properly, which means hidden, fused separately and wired so that cutting the obvious cable does not disable it. We fit trackers at our centres and mobile.

Before you order

Buy to the rating your insurer or your storage site specifies, and get it in writing before you buy rather than after. Sold Secure Silver, Gold and Diamond are attack test results and not marketing tiers: Diamond means it resisted a longer attack with better tools. The cheapest useful thing on this page is not the biggest lock, it is having every lock keyed alike, because security you find annoying is security you stop using.
